The Gibson Es-5 Switchmaster became Zappa's main guitar when he first rose to the attention of music fans with The Mothers of Invention. Zappa would use the Switchmaster on his debut album, Freak Out!, and continued to use the guitar on a less frequent basis throughout the 1960s.. This signature SG is based on the heavily modified SG Special used by Frank Zappa during the recording of Roxy and Elsewhere. Years of Production: 2013
The guitar is not actually a Gibson but rather the creation of "a guy in Phoenix," who made his way backstage and sold the guitar to Zappa for $500. Though its feel is a lot like that of a Gibson SG, closer inspection reveals such non-Gibson details as a 23rd fret and some nifty inlays and ornamental woodwork.. Frank Zappa's inventive insight has been celebrated for decades and his music continues to live on. This new replica of Zappa's SG brings the feel and sound of the guitar he used for several live performances, including the live album Roxy and Elsewhere.
