Don't have a wiring diagram for a 1979 but the radiator fan switch simply closes at a certain temp(208-216F on the 1200 anyway) supplying a ground for the the fan which has power supplied to it at all times. You could remove switch and test by heating water a thermometer and meter. It's a good idea to flush the radiator if it's still off.
