KTM makes two versions of the 300. The XC-W is more trail-oriented, and the XC model, tested here, is a little more racy. The main difference is that the XC has stiffer suspension with linkage in the rear. There are also differences in gear ratios and equipment. The XC has no headlight, no odometer, and is actually very similar to a motocross.
300 XC-W Open chamber forks, plusher valving front and rear, odo, bigger lighting coil, old body style plastics and frame, I think tammer engine specs, wide ratio 6 speed. 300 XC Closed cartrige forks, stiffer (racier) valving front and rear, close ratio 6 speed, no odo, snappier motor, new body style plastics and a whole new frame.. Any way I had been talking about getting back on a 2 stroke about a year after my Yamaha and I finally did. I was looking at a 200 to a 300 XC or W. It kind of was a tossup for me. I ended up with the big bore XC. First let me say this bike is tall. I normally could care less what the height of a bike is for it has never been a factor for me.
