This is a nifty little unit I built in early 2017 when I was trying out all the various Sound Skulptor kits. The concept is pretty cool. Rather than trying to emulate a tape machine sound it takes a simpler approach and re creates the electronics of a tape machine. A specially designed transforme.. Sound Skulptor is the manufacturing arm of Synchronia, a French recording studio in the South West corner of France, near the Pyrenees. The company's product list includes a variety of mic-preamp modules for a bespoke 1U rack system, as well as an analogue tape simulator, and some API 'Lunchbox' 500-series modules.
Skulpt Your Own The latest outboard device to be added to this growing list is Sound Skulptor's STS (Stereo Tape Simulator), and its approach is very much along the lines of the Rupert Neve Designs Portico 5042, reviewed back in SOS July 2007.. Sound Skulptor recreates legendary Analog Pro Audio devices like Neve preamps, Neumann mics, API compressors, and EMI pres and offers them as DIY kits.
